About Kent DeFord

Kent grew up in Ellettsville, Indiana, and went to Edgewood High School. He then went to Indiana University on a baseball scholarship. After graduating from Indiana University, he returned to Edgewood as a teacher and baseball coach for 10 years. In 2021 he was inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame.

He married his high school sweetheart, Glenda, and they’ve raised a son, Kevin, and a daughter, Kate. They’ve now been married for over 50 years.

Kent got into the insurance business as a multi-line agent, providing home, auto, business, life and health insurance to hundreds of clients. After nearly 27 years with Shelter Insurance, he decided it was time to get away from the “all day, every day” workplace. He thought about ways he could stay busy, help people, use his 40+ years of insurance experience, work from home, pick and choose when he worked, still have time for family, golf, reading, and travel, and maybe earn a little spending money.

He decided that he would continue what he had been doing for years; but narrowing his scope primarily to Medicare insurance plans and he could achieve those retirement goals.

As a former teacher, Kent has always taken an educational, rather than sales approach toward insurance. He will inform you so you can make your own “educated” decisions. You can rest assured that you will not be pushed into a plan that is not a good fit for you.
